Walking slowly through Tuscan hill towns has rewards. I found keyholes in old and new doors everywhere. Each door was marked uniquely, like fingerprints, never repeating. Sometimes I looked through the keyholes to see if there existed a link to hidden mysteries within.
From these hill towns, no matter where you are, the views are magical. From the top, I look out over patterns of agriculture in the most vivid colors, and winter’s only just ended. From the very flat Tiber Valley floor, I can see other towns wrapped around other hills. Today, we walk from Tavernelle, from castle to convent & church to villas, through the Apennine forests. People belong close to the land.
